City Archives of Oulu is a municipal centre archives and its tasks are divided
into five main categories:
- Preservation and enhancement of the accessibility of archival materials:
Reception of records, their sifting, sorting, listing, labelling, care and
repaire, preservation, microfilming and extermination of needless records.
- Information service: Research, surveys and information search.
- General development and control of the archival branch, inspection,
planning, guidance and training.
- Administrative operations: Management, supervision and development of
the City Archives, and preparation of authoritative measures for the City
Executive Board.
- Other tasks: Preservation, distribution and sales of printed matters
published by the city, information services, provision of archival equipment
to the administrative bodies, issue of ISBN-numbers, presentation of the
City Hall and the City Archives.
The documents are available to the administration and other clients within the
bounds of laws, statutes and regulations concerning the publicity of records.
