Work coaching
Work coaching is guided work carried out at the workshops in accordance with the young person's
goals. Work coaching aims at supporting work capacity as well as functional capacity. During
development discussions, the young persons are given feedback on the work process and on their
progress in accordance with their goals.
The starting point of work coaching is the young person's own potential and needs. The participants
do not have to have mastered the field and the work tasks it involves before entering the workshop.
The idea is that work skills develop as a result of learning by doing, and the young people learn
new skills and gain new insights through work coaching. At the youth workshops, the principle
of craftsmanship is applied: the work or product is done entirely by the young person from beginning
to end. Versatile tasks support the realisation of the goals of work coaching. Through work coaching,
young people learn about working life rules and how to function in a work community. Continuous,
constructive feedback helps them recognise their own strengths and development needs.
The aim of work coaching at youth workshops is to:
- encourage young people to apply for a place of study or vocational training and to complete their
studies,
- to promote vocational skills and employment,
- to increase participation and activity as well as general well-being among the young.
In addition to the practical work included in work coaching, the realisation of the goals is
supported by personal coaching, by practical training at companies, by visits to educational
institutions and enterprises, by exposure to physical education and culture, and by arranging
joint theme days focusing on experiences and activity. The participantas also have an opportunity
to raise their comprehensive school marks during their stay at the workshop.
